Rhynold Scores First Career Senex Series Win At Williams Grove.

Always expect the unexpected…….On a night where a top 5 was going to be a chore turned into making a trip to victory lane. A wreck in the heat race placed Rhynold at the rear of the field for the 35 lap event. Rhynold had worked his way up to 7th position by lap 8 before narrowly missing a wreck involving David Brill and Michael Lemanczyk bringing out the yellow. Rhynold would restart 4th and on lap 12 the yellow would fly again as Michael Lemieux and Rhynold would make contact resulting in the pair spinning. After picking up a couple spots on the restart Rhynold would inherit 4th place as the leader would come together and spin in front of the field bringing out the yellow once again. The yellow would fly once again on the restart on lap 24 as the outside pole sitter didn’t get a good restart and Rhynold went 3 wide between David Brill and Rob Cassaday. With a combination of an ill handling car and not knowing Rhynold had a run up the middle Brill was moving down and caught Rhynold’s right front which turned them both into Cassaday. Brill and Rhynold would grab the brakes to slow up enough to pull away from the wreck without losing position. Cassaday was not as lucky as he found the outside wall on the front stretch which collected Keith Kincaid and Bob Belshaw. Rhynold would get a good restart on lap 27 moving to 2nd chasing down Joe Canellas. The yellow would fly again on lap 28 with Quinn McLain and Scott Tice would get together and spin. Restart on lap 31 Rhynold wasted no time with a dive bomb on Canellas in turn 1 & 2 with Kincaid in tow. Rhynold’s car was the best it had been all racing in the final 4 laps and cruised to his first career Senex Shorttrack Championship win followed by Keith Kincaid and Joe Canellas.

“We qualified decent putting us outside pole in heat race #1 but the heat didn’t good as well. These cars are so tight on cold tires and Scott and I come together on the front stretch and I hit the wall and just couldn’t recover from it which placed us in the 11th slot for the start of the main event” stated Rhynold.

“I really had no expectations for this race. Williams Grove is a tough place and coming from that far back when guys like Keith Kincaid and Scott Tice are up front is a pretty tall order and having to come from the back twice to make it happen is an even taller order. Cautions really helped us come to the front. I got caught up in a couple jingles that cost us position. My entry in the turns was alot different than everyone. If I lifted early I could pick up the throttle earlier which would result in me pulling then 2-4 car lengths off the turn and how I missed that wreck with Brill and Lemanczyk is beyond me. Pure luck. and the wreck with Brill and Cassaday was a combination of me being impatient and shooting for a hole that closed up fast and Brill’s car not handling as a result of being tore up. Luckily enough Dave and I pulled away from that without losing a spot. I just wanted to clear Dave as fast as I could because his car was all over the place and was inconsistent and it showed he had his hands full keeping that thing under him and I don’t think he knew I was on the inside of him. I don’t know how he drove that thing and doing as good as he was with it” Chris said.

“The final 4 laps the car was the best it had been all race. I could drive that thing right through the center of the black and let it eat off the turns and I was watching in my mirror because I figured Keith was coming which didn’t happen and I was able to just put it on cruise control and collect the win”

Next up for Rhynold is the Senex Late Model Stock race at Hickory and the iRacing Official Outlaw Micro Sprints at the Chilibowl in Tulsa.

The Senex Dirt Pro Late Models are back in action at Volusia Speedway Park next.
